The episode started out with Tomoko just going throughout her usual school day, alone. She gets home and dreams about how she wished High School would of been, having friends and having fun with them. It begins to get pretty sad when she starts crying over these dreams. To take her mind off of it, she starts doing her homework, which is like to set future goals for yourself or something.
She calls her middle school friend, Yuu, for ideas, who reminds her that her dream was to be an Arms Merchant. ahaha Like a person who sells guns. Thinking about her past again, Tomoko hangs up the phone and begins to cry again. She stops when she realizes she'd rather think about the future.
SO SHE GOES TO TALK TO HER BROTHER, TOMOKI. [YES I FREAKING LOVE TOMOKI] If you didn't know, like the first episode, she made a deal with him so she could talk to him everyday to be better at talking to other people outside of her home. These talks tend to be hilarious because her brother really doesn't give a shit.
She says that because they have no meaning, she doesn't need to talk to him daily anymore. [aww those were my favorite parts of the whole series] But she wasn't against hanging out with him every one and a while, but in truth, he doesn't really care. She starts to leave, and says thanks to him and that she has no use for him anymore. But Tomoki is really like, what the hell?
When she goes back to school, she sees Imae-san, the girl from that last episode, in the hallway. Tomoko gets some idea in her head and starts to follow her around the school. When Tomoko gets back to class, she apparently set up cameras around the classroom to tape what people say about her when she's not there so she can justify her actions when she is around them to order for them to talk to her. [this is getting really sad tomoko] She listens in on the conversations to find out not only do they not say anything bad about her, they don't talk about her at all. *cue Another references*
But okay, all the Another references cracked me up. [if you haven't seen that amazing thriller anime, go watch it now]
So in the middle of class, people start screaming about a cockroach and so, of course, Tomoko gets this idea that she would be the one to get rid of it to get people to notice her. She steps on the cockroach, and all of these people start cheering her name. But it turns out to be a dream. [the cheering part] In reality, the teacher just tells her to wash off her shoe.
Later when she's in the bathroom, she hears people talking about her. Saying that what she did was "freaky" [aww]
At the end of the school day, she sees Imae-san again and is determined to talk to her. When Tomoko reaches out her her, there is a blast of wind, causing Tomoko to see her underwear, making this your typical awkward moment that Tomoko always seems to get into. xD When Imae-san sees Tomoko, she smiles and greets her, but Tomoko gets nervous and runs away. [omg there is only like 5 minutes left of this last episode don't let this end all sad please please] Imae-san's friends show up and she begins talking about how cute Tomoko is and how she's so determined to do things. "I guess you could say I can't take my eyes off her." [okay, is this chick suddenly a lesbian now?]
Cue back to Tomoko running away. The opening song starts playing in the background, which is causing me to crack up. [I didn't even notice that they never played the opening before] All this is going on as she is running with this stupid look on her face. [i'm like crying this is hilarious]
But seriously, just imagine her running with this song playing in the background. [which is a pretty bad-ass opening]
The episode ends with Tomoko sitting in her room with all the lights out and her mother is calling her down for dinner. Tomoko is looking up the definition for an 'unpopular girl' She turns around and begins to laugh stating that none of it really matters anyways. She closes out the browser and heads downstairs for dinner.
I'm not gonna say I'm mad at the ending, just a bit disappointed. Sure it ended sort of happily, but she never really made any friends. It's a comedy anime that is depressingly relatable. I really should of expected that ending though. If it had ended with her running like that, I would of been dying with laughter, but it didn't. But I could say it did. It had a pretty cheesy ending. [like Soul Eater did] Where she realizes that being popular really doesn't matter.
WATAMOTE could definitely have a second season, which I'm counting on because this anime is really funny. It's right up there with Ouran Highschool Host Club.
Thanks for the gruesome, awkward, funny moments Tomoko~
