Kyoukai no Kanata [Beyond The Boundary] ended last week, and I was so moved by the ending that I decided to write out my feelings about it. [Corrin, if you're reading this, I did, indeed, cry over this anime]
---this will contain spoilers---
Everything about this anime was beautiful. The art, the plotline, the animation, the characters. It is very much a show worth watching. At first, I thought it a very mediocre show. I'm not used to watching Slice of Life animes, so I guess that's why it struck me as boring at first. But as the story progressed, the more I got into it. It was an emotional rollercoaster ride of feels, from stomach-hurting laughter to just feeling like gross sobbing in a corner.
"The dark fantasy follows a high school sophomore named Akihito Kanbara. Although the boy appears human, he is half youmu and invulnerable to wounds because he can heal quickly. One day, Akihito meets freshman Mirai Kuriyama when it seems she is about to jump from the school rooftop. Mirai is isolated because of her ability to manipulate blood, which is unique even among members of the spirit world. Disturbing events begin to unfold after Akihito saves Mirai."
It all starts and ends on that school rooftop. Akihito Kanbara and Mirai Kuriyama. Akihito is half youmu [monster/demon] and Mirai is a part of a cursed clan that hunts down youmu. She is able to manipulate her blood, which she mainly transforms into a sword. When she first came to town, her goal was to kill Akihito, a youmu, only to find out he is immortal, but yet she keeps trying even though Akihito is fairly nice to her. He offers for them to be friends, but she doesn't wish to be close to anybody. Yet, she eventually does join him and his friends, who also hunt youmu. When in reality, his friends are mostly just there to keep his youmu half at bay. Though, they are still his dearest friends.

Akihito's friendship with Hiroomi Nase is hilarious. It is one of those friendships where if you didn't know them, you'd probably think they're gay for each other. [though, they probably still are i mean look at those cuties] I just like to prefer to them, like Mitsuki, " the perverts." Though just Hiroomi himself is still quite the character. [oh dear god that OVA] Hiroomi is obsessed with his sister, Mitsuki and Akihito is obsessed with people wearing glasses. And Mirai wears glasses, what a coincidence.
Looking at my first impression of this show, I was confused as to whether this was going to turn into some love story, and boy. Boy, I really should of seen it coming. I mean, it wasn't a full on love story. It was more about friendship of all four of them trying to survive while hunting youmu.
Speaking of that, I mentioned before that I didn't get into this show until a certain point. And that point is when Akihito's youmu half showed up.
First of all, can I just say damn. Second of all, Akihito has no control over his youmu form at all. His youmu half is extremely powerful and nearly killed all of the people he cared about but let's not talk about that.
Actually, we are going to talk about that. Mirai was sent to kill this youmu, but when she does try, she simply can't do it. Over the course of time, she began to deeply care for Akihito and can't bare to kill him, even though "he" is not Akihito she knows in his youmu form.
The last few episodes were some of the most intense scenes I've ever watched. I was literally sitting so close to my screen. I needed to know what happened. All this shit was going down and all I could do was watch and sit in my feels. And then frEAKING MIRAI WHY. WHY
WOULD YOU DO SUCH A THING JUST I KNOW YOU LOVE HIM BUT WHY WHY WHY FREAKING WHY I CANT I CANT HANDLE THIS SHOW RIGHT NOW I NEED TO LEAVE THE ROOM

"what I love about knk is that one second its about an adorable girl and her senpai and the next second the adorable girl has a fucking sword made of her blood and is slicing down enemies and then suddenly your heart is breaking because people are sacrificing their lives which all transitions into a scene with a naked boy dancing in a scarf."-x
